Health Consultant and Dru Yoga Teacher Trainer

The Dru Bhagavad Gita by Chris Barrington, John Jones, Savitri MacCuish and Mansukh Patel, compiled and edited by Yamuna Loyal

'Great!', I thought to myself when I first picked up the Dru Bhagavad Gita. Here's the book that's given so many ideas and insights to me in my yoga practice over the years, now presented in a friendly, conversational style. It's authors, Chris Barrington, John Jones, Savitri MacCuish and Mansukh Patel put together one of the best manuals for daily living I've come across.

The Dru Bhagavad Gita (or 'Song of the Spirit') presents the Gita in three volumes, each covering six of its eighteen chapters. Its a metaphor in the shape of a great battle, in which the main players represent the powerful forces which compete for supremacy within our own minds – the greatest battlefields of all.

In the first part of each volume Mansukh Patel retells the Gita’s story, and it's a great read! The second part of each book then goes on to give the verses of the Gita, first in Sanskrit and then translated into English. This is followed by a commentary by Chris, John, Savitri and Mansukh as well as a helpful exercise to do during the day.

Chris, John, Mansukh and Savitri make a particular point of asking just the right questions to catalyse us into understanding it's keys in very powerful ways. Because of this, you can read the same verse over and over again, and find it giving you ever new and more valuable insights every time.

As I'm often involved in Dru Meditation courses and Dru Yoga teacher training I'm always looking for ways to make the Gita more accessible to my students. After all, it's one of the world's original source-books for yoga and meditation. Having it in plain, everyday english that is at the same time full of beauty makes this version of the Gita a winner in my books!

Peace Formula - Practical meditation in a busy world
I’ve got a long–standing relationship with the Peace Formula, by Mansukh Patel. I had a copy of the first edition in 1993, which became increasingly well-read and well-thumbed as the years went by. Not only have I used it as a manual for meditation sustaining my own yoga and meditation practice, it has inspired my teaching of meditation over many years, and I was also part of the graphics and IT team which created the Dutch translation of the book.

Peace Formula New Millennium
Mansukh Patel’s Peace Formula has been written in the spirit of seeing the New Millennium as an opportunity to reaffirm that peace is not only possibly but a necessity if humanity wants to survive. ... In fact being truly human calls for this inner revolution to take place so we can, as Mansukh writes,  ‘leave the mind, enter the chamber of the heart – where frontiers end and friendship begins’.
